  17. Hello and welcome to a new section in POWER which will hold all the lies and 
  18. rumours circulating in the ST scene and thus,  is cleverly called, "LIES AND 
  19. RUMOURS".   This section is not to be confused with the NEWS  section.   All 
  20. information in the NEWS section is 100% true (well,  99.9%) but what appears 
  21. in  here  may  well be pure fact or pure fiction.   We're not  going  to  be 
  22. starting  off any rumours (honest!) but I am simply going to stick  bits  of 
  23. info  I've heard,  whether you choose to believe it or not is totally up  to 
  24. you.   If  you  know  of any rumours,  be sure to write and  tell  me  about 
  25. them.  Sources of LIES AND RUMOURS will always remain anonymous.

  36. It is rumoured that Hi-Soft have now started work on Dev-Pak 4 which will be 
  37. another  greatly improved version of the infamous  assembly  language.   The 
  38. package  is  expected  to  come on two or three disks  and  have  tens  more 
  39. options,  loads more keyboard short-cuts,  more efficient compiling (with an 
  40. improved version of GEN-ST), improved block handling of files and lots, lots 
  41. more.  If all is true and all goes well, it should be a coders paradise!

  51. There  have  been many rumours of a Falcon 040 but  inside  information  now 
  52. rumours  (or  lies)  that a FALCON 040 has never  been  taken  into  serious 
  53. consideration and it is very unlikely that it ever will be.

  62. It  is rumoured that the ATARI Jaguar console bundle  game,  Cybermorph,  is 
  63. already  becoming old-hat as the sequel,  Battlemorph,  is  apparently  well 
  64. under  way  although  with  all the   improvements  and  enhancements  being 
  65. entailed,  it is expected to still be quite awhile before we see the game on 
  66. the shelves.

  75. It  is  strongly  rumoured  that roughly 6 or  7  of  the large  advertising 
  76. P.D.L.'s on the ST scene are very near folding over.   It would be unfair to 
  77. name  any  of  them as at this point (still rumours really) although  I will 
  78. mention  that  two of the P.D.L.'s folding are  WARPZONE  P.D.L.  and  16\32 
  79. because they're two of the crappiest  P.D.L.'s in the world.  Not wanting to 
  80. commit  liable I won't go into all the details but let's just say  that  all 
  81. of  their bad doings are beginning to catch up with them and it  serves  'em 
  82. right.

  84. The  other P.D.L.'s are closing down due to lack of care about  the  library 
  85. (better  things to do with more money to be made elsewhere) and  others  are 
  86. simply in financial strife.

  95. People  involved in the ST scene have been saying that there may well  be  a 
  96. new  commercial  group  appearing on the scene similar to  that  of  CASPIAN 
  97. SOFTWARE.  No names, idea's or anything have been mentioned yet.

  106. It  has  been strongly rumoured by Vic Lennard (editor of ST REVIEW)  to  us 
  107. that  circulation of ST REVIEW may well be increased very soon so that  much 
  108. larger numbers of ST REVIEW will be printed every month.   It's supposedly a 
  109. very big risk though and if it goes wrong it could be the end of ST  REVIEW, 
  110. however, Vic really wants to give it a go.

  119. We  have  heard  that the future of ST FORMAT is being put  to  question  at 
  120. Christmas  this year due to FUTURE PUBLISHING (the publishers of ST  FORMAT) 
  121. being sold off for quite a substantial six figure sum.

  130. The once large ST P.D.L., TOWER P.D. closed down a while ago due to personal 
  131. problems.   However,  we  have been told that TOWER P.D.  may well  soon  be 
  132. starting up again in the near future.

  138.                               --- JAGUAR 2 ---

  141. Yes,  rumours  are now going wild about a sequel Jaguar console.   Some  say 
  142. it's going to simply be called the JAGUAR 2 but personally heard that if  it 
  143. DOES  happen it will be called the SLAZENGER (or that will at least  be  the 
  144. working title).   Expected to be twice as good, the aim will basically be to 
  145. try  and  double   EVERYTHING - 128-bit,  twice as many  pixel  movements  a 
  146. second,  twice as many colours and so on.   Work hasn't started yet but will 
  147. start as soon as ATARI get back into positive figures (at the  moment,  they  
  148. are   still   making  a loss) and if and when the Jaguar  has  really  taken 
  149. off.   They expect by then (between 1 and 3 years time) the technology  will 
  150. then  be  available  to  them and the console will be  easily  made  into  a 
  151. reality.  Well, let's see shall we...

  160. A reliable source has informed me that ST USER is going to be publishing its  
  161. final issue very,  very soon, probably even before Christmas of this year so 
  162. keep an eye out to see what's happening.  It's though that this is happening 
  163. due to lack of readership.

  171. Maybe it is just wishful thinking but there have been murmurs of the MEGA ST 
  172. and  TT going super cheap  in a similar way that the STFM did when  it  came 
  173. back.   It  is rumoured  that,   as with the STFM,  they have found  a  much 
  174. cheaper and more efficient way to produce the two machines and will soon  be 
  175. bundling the machines in large packages with not so large-a-price  tag.   An 
  176. exact price  was not mentioned but a decrease in price of  between 40 and 60  
  177. percent can be expected if the above is true.
